Why Real Life Can Be More Interesting Than Fiction
I recently started thinking about all the stories I'd come across that had connections to real life events.
The two authors that came to mind were Thomas Harris and Robert Bloch.
If you've never heard of these authors let me give you a quick background on both:
Thomas Harris
Thomas Harris went to the FBI to do his research for his book The Silence of the Lambs. There he would glean information about serial killers such as Ted Bundy, Ed Gein and Gary M Heidnik for inspiration. Often sitting in on lectures to add vital information to his books.
Robert Bloch
Bloch wrote Psycho, which again took its inspiration from none other than Ed Gein. Bloch started his career writing Lovecraftian style stories and eventually started writing Psycho which was loosely based around Ed Gein's real life.
Both writer's had their works turned into highly successful movies and started a thirst for knowing more about serial killers.
So the next time you pick up a book or put on a movie, do your own digging and see if the story you're reading or watching has any truth in it.
